A smarter solution for dual-wiper systems by ROCA Industry

When visibility is critical, every part of a vessel's window matters. That's why ROCA Industry is introducing Wiper contral, overlapping sweep – a new wiper control system designed specifically for dual-wiper installations with overlapping sweep areas.

By synchronizing wiper movements and preventing arm collisions, the system allows operators to maximize the cleaned window area while maintaining safe and reliable operation.

Compatible with the W25, W38, and W50 wiper motors, Wiper control, overlapping sweep delivers synchronized sweeps in all operating modes, including intermittent settings, and comes equipped with an integrated motor brake and automatic washing program.

Eliminating the compromise between coverage and safety

Traditionally, vessels equipped with two wiper arms have faced a difficult trade-off. To prevent the arms from colliding, installers often need to separate the sweep areas, leaving an uncleaned strip in the center of the window.

According to Mikael Carlsson, Sales Manager Marine at ROCA Industry, this has long been a limitation of conventional systems:

"If you don't use a linked system, you normally need to separate the individual sweep areas to avoid the arms colliding in the middle. That leaves you with a small area in the middle of the window that never gets cleaned from water."

The new control system addresses this challenge through an integrated proximity sensor mounted on one of the wiper motors. The sensor continuously detects the position of the wiper arm and ensures that the two arms remain synchronized throughout the sweep cycle:

"The sensor detects the location of that arm and makes sure that the arm never collides", says Mikael Carlsson.

The result is a larger effective wiping area without compromising operational safety.

Why synchronization matters

Synchronization is the core function that makes overlapping sweeps possible. The system keeps both wiper arms moving together regardless of whether operators choose one of the three intermittent speed settings or either of the two continuous speed settings.

Mikael Carlsson emphasizes that synchronization is essential from both a functional and visual perspective:

"First of all, synchronization is extremely important if you have two overlapping sweeps, otherwise the arms will potentially collide in the middle."

Beyond collision prevention, synchronized movement also contributes to a cleaner appearance on the bridge.

As Mikael Carlsson notes it looks nicer from an esthetic viewpoint if the two arms move in a synchronized pattern over the window.

Benefits for shipbuilders, resellers and retrofit projects

The new control system's compatibility with multiple ROCA wiper motors creates advantages throughout the supply chain.

By being compatible with the W25, W38, and W50 wiper motors, the solution reduces complexity for distributors and resellers. Instead of stocking multiple control systems for different motor sizes, they can cover a broad range of applications with a single product.

Mikael Carlsson explains:

"With a wiper control that can be used over a wide range of wiper motors, our resellers can reduce the number of SKU that they need to keep on stock."

The flexibility also benefits shipbuilders and retrofit projects by simplifying installation and lowering overall project costs.

"For shipbuilders, it also reduces installation time and saves money in the end."

Designed for reliable everyday operation

The complete system consists of a control box with an integrated proximity sensor, a mounting bracket for the sensor, and a control panel or switch, sold separately.

Key features include:
  • Synchronized sweeps in all operating modes
  • Three intermittent speed settings
  • Two continuous speed settings
  • Integrated motor brake
  • Automatic washing program
  • Collision prevention for overlapping sweep applications
  • Compatibility with W25, W38, and W50 wiper motors
Together, these features provide vessel operators with a reliable solution that maximizes visibility while simplifying installation and operation.
